Inspiration

The problem: Recombinant proteins are expressed from a host cell leading to Host Cell Proteins (HCPs) co-expression. Risks of this phenomena include: Direct biological effects, causing immune response, unwanted effects on final product.

What it does

Our solution: We decided to create a simple website that filters JSON data on HCPs to give the user a list of proteins based on the selected impact. The provided proteins have been found to cause the impact.

How we built it

We created our own json database of host cell proteins which we accessed and sorted with our html website.

Challenges we ran into

We were challenged learning how to access and manipulate json data.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This was Madi's first hackathon and Tess's second so we are proud of completing our project! This was Madi's first coding project! This was Tess's first time being successful with json data!

What's next for Host Cell Proteins site

For the sake of time we used a very limited set of data, we would love to add more proteins to our database. We have the data for specific impact, molecular weight, isoelectric points, and function so given more time we want to add more filters so users can categorize and learn about the proteins in other ways. Collaborate with industry companies to learn what specific recombinant protein products these HCPs have been found in.
