Inspiration
Designing and budgeting IT infrastructure for hotels and resorts is a complex process that usually requires multiple spreadsheets, vendor documents, manual calculations, and extensive technical experience.
During my work on hospitality IT infrastructure projects, I experienced firsthand how much time is spent combining information from different sources, validating requirements, estimating costs, and preparing technical documentation.
I wanted to create a platform that transforms this expertise into a structured, repeatable, and intelligent workflow.
Hospitality Infrastructure Planner v2 was created to help IT professionals, consultants, and hotel developers quickly understand what infrastructure a property needs, how much it may cost, and how future-ready the design is.
What it does
Hospitality Infrastructure Planner v2 is an AI-powered planning and budgeting platform for hospitality IT infrastructure.
The platform allows users to define a hotel property and automatically generates an infrastructure model covering multiple technology domains:
- Network infrastructure (Wi-Fi, switching, fiber uplinks, VLANs, firewall requirements)
- Guest room technology (IPTV, smart room systems, telephony)
- Security systems (CCTV, storage requirements, monitoring infrastructure)
- Safety and IoT systems
- Business systems and operational devices
- Power requirements and UPS capacity
The platform provides:
- CAPEX estimation
- Annual OPEX calculation
- Cost distribution by technology category
- Infrastructure complexity scoring
- Infrastructure maturity assessment
- Device quantity planning
- Power consumption estimation
- AI-powered recommendations
- Executive dashboard
- PDF project reporting
The goal is to reduce planning effort and help technical teams make faster, more consistent infrastructure decisions.
How we built it
The application was built using Lovable with AI-assisted development and extensive prompt engineering.
The project combines practical hospitality IT infrastructure knowledge with AI-driven analysis and recommendation capabilities.
The platform was designed around real-world hotel technology planning scenarios, including pre-opening projects, infrastructure modernization, and long-term operational planning.
The biggest focus was creating a system that connects technical engineering requirements with business-level decisions such as investment planning, budgeting, and lifecycle management.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge was converting complex infrastructure planning knowledge into a structured model that could be used consistently by an application.
Hospitality environments contain many interconnected systems where decisions in one area affect others — for example, Wi-Fi density impacts switching requirements, PoE capacity affects power planning, and security systems influence storage requirements.
Another challenge was creating a balance between technical depth and usability, so the platform could provide meaningful engineering insights while remaining understandable for non-technical stakeholders.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating a complete hospitality infrastructure planning workflow instead of a simple calculator.
The platform can transform a small set of property details into a complete infrastructure overview containing:
- Estimated investment requirements
- Technology architecture overview
- Infrastructure maturity analysis
- Operational cost visibility
- Executive-level reporting
The project demonstrates how AI can enhance specialized professional workflows by combining domain expertise with automation.
What we learned
This project reinforced that the biggest value of AI comes from combining it with real-world expertise.
AI can accelerate analysis, recommendations, and documentation, but the quality of results depends on the quality of the underlying knowledge and workflows.
Building Hospitality Infrastructure Planner v2 showed how AI can become a practical decision-support tool for complex technical and business processes.
What's next for Hospitality Infrastructure Planner v2
Future development will focus on making the platform even more intelligent and connected.
Potential improvements include:
- Integration with real vendor catalogs and pricing databases
- More advanced AI-driven architecture recommendations
- Automated compliance and best-practice checks
- Multi-property portfolio analysis
- Cloud migration planning assistance
- Integration with enterprise IT management workflows
The long-term vision is to create an AI assistant for hospitality technology planning that supports the entire lifecycle of hotel infrastructure projects.
