Inspiration

When we step outside of our home, one thing that we always see in this day and age is the empty stores and buildings all across the street. Because of the ongoing National Recovery Plan, most businesses are still not allowed to operate, and many more are closing down due to the lack of business opportunities. And because of that, many properties are rendered useless, just sitting there empty for months, and not being utilized to their full potential. On the other end, we are hearing news about hospitals running out of spaces and beds because of the large number of patients. So that's when our idea strucked us. Why don't we use these empty properties as health facilities? If we create a platform that links property owners to hospitals, we can kill two birds with one stone. Property owners can rent out their properties to generate revenue, and hospitals will get the extra capacity that they desperately need.

What it does

Hospify allows property owners to register and advertise their properties on our platform for free, and help hospitals to find the most suitable match for them to be used as vaccination centre, quarantine centre, and so on. Using our app, hospital representatives can browse through a large pool of properties uploaded by our users and schedule site visits to these locations in less than 5 minutes. It also provides easy access for hospitals rep to view and analyse their invoices and rental records.

How we built it

The first thing that we did was planning the modules of our application. After we have a list of modules to be included, we then used Figma to design the User Interface for each of them. We then split the modules between our 3 members, and build the project in a collaborative approach using GitHub. The prototype is built solely using HTML/CSS, and JavaScript with some touch of Bootstrap.

Challenges we ran into

The first challenge that we ran into is the lack of experience with the tools that we used. Throughout the whole development process, we ran into a lot of bottlenecks where we spent a lot of time Googling for solutions, which wasted a lot of time. This brings us to our second problem, the lack of time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Although our prototype is scuffed, we still managed to deliver a minimal viable product within the deadline. To come up with a creative idea and develop it in such a short period is something that we didn't dare to try, and we are definitely proud of it.

What we learned

The most important skills that we have learned in this hackathon is how to come up with creative ideas as a collective group, handling and overcoming pressure, and the flaws and holes in our technical knowledge that we need to improve on. It is a truly humbling experience, as we are very excited to hone our skills to better prepare ourselves for the next hackathons!

What's next for Hospify

We wish to collect as much feedback as possible regarding our idea in Hospify. If it is proven to bring value to people's lives, we will definitely look into further developing the business model, refining all areas of the project, to come out with an improved prototype.
