Horus: Project Story

Inspiration

Millions of credit card users earn rewards every day—cashback, miles, points, perks—but most never see the full benefit. Rewards expire, go unused, or sit hidden behind complicated systems spread across multiple apps and banks. In 2023 alone, consumers lost $500 million in unredeemed rewards. We wanted to change that.

Inspired by the idea that financial opportunity shouldn’t be wasted, Horus was built to help everyday users take control of their rewards—automatically, intelligently, and transparently.

What it does

Horus is a staged digital wallet and rewards-optimization platform that helps users make smarter financial decisions using AI.

With Horus, users can:

  • See all credit cards and balances in one place
  • View cashback, points, and miles across cards
  • Get AI-powered recommendations for which card earns the best benefits per purchase
  • Track reward expirations before they disappear
  • Apply rewards to pay off debt—or even invest

How we built it

Frontend: React Native (cross-platform, modern UI) Backend: Express + OpenAI (intelligent benefit suggestions) Database: Firebase (auth + storage) Design: Figma prototypes, sleek minimal UI Team workflow:

Challenges we ran into

  • Training the AI logic to make accurate card-recommendation decisions
  • Handling multiple reward types (miles, points, cashback) and standardizing them
  • Designing a UI that makes complex financial data feel simple

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Built a unified wallet UI showing real-time card data and balances
  • Implemented backend logic for reward-based card recommendation
  • Created a scalable foundation ready for financial APIs and investment features
  • Designed a clean, professional mobile interface from scratch
