Inspiration
We were inspired to create a learning app using game mechanics to bring an enjoyable experience to users. A heavy inspiration for the gamified version of this app was Duolingo. It takes the aspects of learning Morse Code and turns is cooperative speed game.
What it does
Morsey Morsey is a two-player cooperative web game where teammates can only communicate through Morse code. One player gets a word or phrase and taps it out in Morse code; the other receives the signal and has to decode it back into English. Teams are scored on both accuracy and speed, with a live leaderboard tracking all matches.
How we built it
Vue 3 + TypeScript + Vite for the frontend, styled with Tailwind CSS Java for the backend WebSockets for real-time communication between players
Challenges we ran into
Server-client communication was a major challenge, there was some miscommunication within the team early on, leading to confusion around goals and implementation details.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud with the front end. We came together by the end to make the server and client work together.
What we learned
Our team learned the importance of a clear goal before git commits. Our lack of early vision caused team confusion. By the end we worked together to build an amazing app.
What's next for Horsey Morsey
Our next steps with Horsey-Morsey is to push the development into a full app production for the masses. Our vision is to create a world with inspired Morse Code speakers.
