Inspiration
HormonEquity was born from a key insight revealed through our qualitative research: professional women in the 'Sandwich Generation' (ages 35–55) face a critical gap, a deep social taboo that silences perimenopause and menopause. Women discover these changes alone, without knowing what is happening to their bodies, which specialist to turn to, or what it will cost them.
What it does
HormonEquity is a web application that guides women through a conversational flow to identify their symptoms, receive a personalized care route, and understand the real cost of their treatment with simulated payment options including installments and Buy Now Pay Later, so they can plan their hormonal health financially without surprises.
How we built it
Using Next.js and Vercel, we built a conversational interface where women describe their symptoms and receive a personalized care route with real cost breakdowns in local currency (PEN) and simulated payment options, including installments and buy now pay later, so they can plan their treatment financially without surprises. Speech to Text allows users to speak naturally. ElevenLabs voice guidance is planned for our next phase.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was translating a feeling of confusion and taboo into a functional fintech solution. We had to structure a conversational tool that helps women identify their symptoms, find the right care route, and understand the real cost of their treatment. Ensuring the user feels safe talking about a topic socially associated with vulnerability or loss of relevance was our priority in the experience design.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of having defined a problem statement based on real user research. We managed to turn the frustration of uncertainty into a tool for economic independence, connecting women with specialized care routes and giving them clarity on real treatment costs and payment options. We proved that with the right guidance and proper payment facilities, women can protect both their professional trajectory and their financial stability.
What we learned
We learned that when women finally understand what is happening to their bodies, they can plan. And when they can plan financially, knowing costs, specialists, and payment options, the impact on their work and professional development is significantly reduced, even alongside all the other responsibilities that come with this stage of life.
What's next for HormonEquity
Our vision is to make hormonal health a normalized part of every woman's life planning in Latin America. We want to build an informative platform that visibilizes women's health, creates community, and connects women with verified specialists and accessible financing options, so that a natural biological transition is never a reason for financial decline or premature exit from the labor market.
