Inspiration
We were inspired by the success of platform games and the idea of bringing a fun, competitive, and community-driven experience to Meta Horizon Worlds. Our motivation was to create something fresh for Spanish-speaking players, who often lack representation and resources in this space.
What it does
Horizon Guys is a fast-paced platform game where players run, jump, dodge obstacles, and compete to survive until the very end. It introduces new traps, challenges, and rewards like the legendary Golden Duck, making every match an exciting battle against time, others, and yourself.
How we built it
We come from backgrounds in 3D modeling and animation, with experience using advanced engines like Unreal Engine and Unity. Transitioning to Meta Horizon Worlds, we built the game using its creation tools—though more limited, they allowed us to design obstacles, levels, and mechanics adapted to the platform.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was the limited customization and creation options within the Horizon Worlds editor, especially compared to professional engines. Incorporating assets is still restricted, making it difficult to achieve the level of quality we aim for. Additionally, there is a lack of tutorials and documentation, especially for basic mechanics like jumping, running, picking up items, or shooting. For the Spanish-speaking community, this is even more challenging, since most resources are in English and very few explanations are clear or complete. This often left us feeling excluded from the learning process.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite these obstacles, we managed to build a fully functional and fun platform game that has already been played by thousands of users. We are also proud to have taken the initiative to contact Meta with the idea of developing structured learning courses in Spanish (with optional English translation) to help grow the community and make creation more accessible.
What we learned
We learned how to adapt our skills in 3D modeling and animation to a new platform, even with its limitations. Thanks to the fact that Horizon’s tools are still quite simple and limited, we were able to learn the workflows with ease and now manage the program with great fluency. This made the process approachable, straightforward, and very rewarding. Most importantly, we understood the value of community, accessibility, and the need for better resources for creators worldwide—especially in underrepresented languages.
What's next for HORIZON GUYS (PLATFORM GAME)
We plan to continue improving Horizon Guys with new challenges, mechanics, and competitive modes. Beyond this, we aim to create new games every month to keep the community entertained and engaged. At the same time, we want to keep pushing for more educational resources for creators, particularly in Spanish, to expand the community and empower more developers to bring their ideas to life in Horizon Worlds.
