Horizon Guys was born from the idea of bringing fast-paced, competitive platforming to Meta Horizon Worlds. After seeing its success on other platforms, I wanted to reimagine the experience specifically for Horizon—making it more dynamic, more chaotic, and more rewarding for players who love a good challenge. The Christmas Update was inspired by the desire to create a seasonal event that felt alive, festive, and full of surprises, transforming the world into a playful winter obstacle course.
How It Was Built
The project combines multiple modular obstacle systems designed to be easily expanded and reconfigured. Each course is built with replayability in mind: unpredictable traps, physics-based movers, and reactive platforms that keep players on their toes. For the Christmas Update, I redesigned large sections of the world, adding new snow-themed mechanics, slippery surfaces, falling icicles, and interactive holiday objects. I also implemented a mission system that rewards players for completing festive challenges, encouraging exploration and competition.
What I Learned
Throughout development, I learned how to better optimize large interactive scenes to keep them smooth even with many players. I also refined my workflow for world updates—especially useful as Horizon Guys continues to receive new content. The Christmas Update required additional testing, balancing difficulty, and ensuring the new mechanics integrated seamlessly with the core gameplay.
Challenges
One of the biggest challenges was managing asset updates inside the editor, especially with recurring issues involving thumbnail images and screenshots. Despite these obstacles, the update reached a polished state through persistence, iteration, and creative problem-solving.
Future Plans
Looking ahead, Horizon Guys will continue to grow with new courses, seasonal events, and a competitive elimination mode designed to push players even further.
