Inspiration
We were inspired by simple games such as the dinosaur jumping game, and we wanted a way to play this game with different controls, such as our hands! We also have a theme of frogs in our friend circle for message channels, so that was a big idea as well!
What it does
This is a simple game that allows you to jump over obstacles with your avatar. It works like the dinosaur jumping game in a sense that the game ends when your avatar hits an obstacle
How we built it
We built it using Pygame, OpenCV, and MediaPipe. We also created all our assets using Procreate.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into challenges connecting pygame & the openCV video. Challenges with keybinding and figuring out hex codes for certain keys, and how to implement it correctly. Our group was also volunteering for Tora-Con which happened during the same time as WicHacks so we didn’t have enough time to implement everything we wanted to.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to make our game track our hand and tell how many finger we were holding up. It is also our first time doing an infinite scrolling game so we had ran into issues with creating our looping background and looping the image.
What we learned
We learned about computer vision! We also learned more about pygame features as well as opencv and mediapipe!
What's next for Hoppy Hands
We want to be able to increase the difficulty by making the scroll go faster over time. Another thing we wanted to do was to add more assets so the obstacles would be more interesting such as underwater obstacles.
