Inspiration

Hospitals in our country are still working on the 20th century outdated system where booking an appointment and going to hospitals is a very tedious task. Maintaining a complete medical history is difficult and finding the right doctor is hard. Currently the few hospitals in Pakistan which have HMS' and EHRs keep their own patient record private. There is no centralized system to store a patient's medical history. Standalone apps for finding hospitals and booking appointments are not feature-rich and lucrative enough for users to keep them on their phone as a permanent health companion.

What it does

The App has 3 personas in the target audience:

1. Hospital/Clinic Profile

  • Should be able to enlist the hospital on the app.
  • Add location.
  • Add working hours.
  • Add doctors available.
  • Add Laboratories and testing facilities if available.
  • Billing and appointment management.
  • Employee management.
  • Post jobs/invite doctors.

2. Doctor Profile

  • Add their details (name, picture, educational background, professional experience, licenses)
  • Apply for job openings at hospitals.
  • View patient’s medical history
  • View patient’s prescription history.
  • Add the diagnosis information.
  • Add laboratory tests required.
  • Add medicine to the patient prescription

3. Patient Profile

  • Search and find hospitals based on their problem.
  • View doctors available at clinic/hospital along with their ratings and experience.
  • Book appointments.
  • Show/hide their medical history for each appointment.
  • Review and rate: Hospitals & Doctors they've visited.
  • View facilities available at hospital.
  • Review treatment.
  • Add symptoms/side effects.

How we built it

5 days back we completely stopped work or our own project and started working on HOPLOUD. We went though the already available HMS' and EHRs, and the relevant research work on the subject. We found a very relevant research on HMS at Combined Military Hospital Peshawar by Pak Armed Forces Medical Journal. It showed us some of major factors causing resistance in adoption of HMS in Pakistan, Ranging from lack of training to increase in time spent on patient processing.

Currently the hospitals in Pakistan which have HMS' and EHRs keep their own patient record,. There is no centralized system to store a patient's medical history.

Standalone apps for finding hospitals and booking appointments are not feature rich and lucrative enough for users to keep them on their phone as a permanent health companion.

We brainstormed on how we can eliminate the issues and provide an easy to use and yet a powerful system that will maintain a person's medical history and help hospitals increase their online visibility.

To reduce the time spent on patient processing we decreased the amount of information that needs to be filled for each patient and the number of clicks or navigations required in the complete journey at each target audience level. The data to be entered has been divided among the 3 ends (Patient, Doctor, and Management Staff) to further streamline the process.

2 days back we started working on a visual prototype and built page on top of page to view and understand and improve our design. The prototype we have built is a functional example of how the system we have planned will work.
