Inspiration
The instruction "stay at home" given by international health institutions to the world population to try to mitigate the exponential spread of the virus has given positive results for the countries that have followed them, however, carrying out this instruction in Mexico is not so easy since more than 40% of the population lives in poverty and more than 50% live from informal trade according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), this means that much of the population if they do not go to work today, will not have money to eat tomorrow. This is only one of the great problems faced by Mexicans, as well as some other problems that we will mention later and that they share with most countries facing the consequences of the pandemic.
For this reason the need to create a means to connect people suffering from this and other problems with people willing to help them face them.
What it does
This is a website that meets the needs of the population by allowing or providing:
- Real-time, reliable information from official sources about the pandemic.
- To connect people who lost their source of income with people who are willing to donate food, medicine, money or who offer some source of income (employment).
- To connect people who are desperate/anxious to get out on the streets with specialists in treating these types of psychological symptoms. In addition to publishing interesting links with multimedia content for your entertainment.
- Connecting people who need food or cleaning supplies for their homes with local merchants who sell these products. This is to encourage the growth of the local economy.
- Connecting people who want to spend their free time better with professionals who want to share their knowledge. As well as sharing links of interest to courses and platforms that offer training of all kinds.
How we built it
We identified the problems that people are having by doing some surveys. The survey was answered by 98 people and their answers showed 15 problems of which we selected only the 5 with the greatest impact and ordered them from highest to lowest.
Answer to the first question:
- Lack of accurate information about the pandemic. 68 people.
- Lack of income $ economic. 51 people.
- Anxiety or desperation to get out. 28 people.
- Lack of food and cleaning supplies. 23 people.
- Lack of courses/training to make better use of your time. 21 people.
Once the 5 main problems have been identified, we carry out a brainstorming session with the aim of proposing ideas to solve the problems detected. We carried out another survey with the proposed solutions and distributed them again through social networks. This survey was answered by 59 people.
After receiving the answers to our solution proposals we proceeded to define the minimum viable product (MVP) of the project in order to start with its design and construction.
We divided into two teams and began working with the design and coding. We were currently talking to each other to define the best approach for the design and the critical points for the code.
Once the designs were made in paper we arranged our components from the code to match the mockups.
Challenges we ran into
One big challenge was doing the survey with people, this because many were lazy and only answer to complete it, we needed to distribute the survey with family and friends to have better answers. Another challenge now for the coding part was the intention of scraping the news, but this was a point that was going to cost us much time so we decided to move it to the consumption of an API to retrieve them.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We developed the basics for a social network in less than a week and we are excited to learn more
What we learned
The coronavirus pandemic has brought with it many problems not only in health, but also in social and economic terms. We are now facing an unprecedented problem and even if we overcome the pandemic there will be very big consequences that will have to be addressed. The actions of governments alone will not be enough to get us out of this crisis; the actions of citizens who need technological tools to organize themselves and channel efforts to support each other will be fundamental.
We are sure that Hopenus can contribute with a grain of sand and help people during these difficult times.
What's next for Hopenus
RELEASE
Once the design and development of Hopenus is completed, we propose the following points for the market release:
ALLIANCES
1.- Create alliances with Federal and State Health Institutions to make Hopenus their official channel for the dissemination of communications about the coronavirus.
2.- Create alliances with local food producers and local businesses so that they can advertise their job vacancies and products in Hopenus.
3.- Create alliances with entertainment creators to disseminate content that will help alleviate people's anxiety and despair.
DIGITAL MARKETING STRATEGY
1.- Create Hopenus Profiles on Social Networks: Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin.
2.- Develop a strategy of valuable content in each social network to attract organic followers to our social network, as well as paid campaigns to have a greater reach at the beginning of the deploy.
3.-Develop an influencer strategy in instagram to have a greater impact on the launch and get more registered members.
4.- Develop a marketing strategy on Google ADS to appear in related searches in the first places of Google search.
NEW FEATURES FOR HOPENUS
1.-Development of a map that shows by means of geolocation the proximity to the people who offer the products or services I need. As well as the map of the number of people infected by coronavirus.
2.-Store multimedia material for entertainment, as well as the dissemination of educational material for prevention, care and attention of infected people.
3.- Functionality to be able to contact by video call other users in order to receive advice, psychological, medical, trainings, courses, etc.
4.-A section dedicated to receiving or providing expert advice.
