Inspiration
I was inspired to create HopeLink after seeing how many homeless individuals struggle not only to find shelter or food, but also to access opportunities for work, education, or healthcare. Many people want to help, yet there isn’t a simple, organized way to connect both sides. This project aims to bridge that gap empowering communities to support each other through one accessible platform. It also eliminates the prejudice about homeless people being drug addict or "bad people". This project focuses on how people deserve second chances in life.
What it does
HopeLink is a web-based platform that connects homeless individuals, volunteers, and organizations. For the homeless, find nearby shelters, food banks, healthcare services, and free workshops. For the community, post small jobs or volunteer gigs to provide short-term income opportunities. For organizations, partner to offer environmental programs, health checkups, or educational training. For government, fulfill macroeconomic aim of unemployment and solves civic challenge such as poverty or hunger straight from the source/root.
How we built it
We began with research and empathy interviews to understand real needs. Then we created a presentation in canva to visualize a clean and effective way to pitch our idea.
Challenges we ran into
Time management as it took a while to have an idea ready. Another is making a good presentation with information that matches the vision I had making this idea. Next, researching and getting info is quite hard as in my area it is quite rare nowadays to find homeless people but with effort and information online it is possible. Lastly is hesitation in decision such as me thinking if I have enough time for hackathon or only Ideathon which I decide ideathon is better with my time limit.
What we learned
I learned how to make a proper presentation, pitching and an idea to become reality(Only the first steps). Idea are only ideas but with this ideathon I learnt how to present it effectively so that I could be more convincing. Another is learning about the homeless such as poverty cycle, their struggles and their way of living which is quite sad in a way.
What's next for HopeLink
I would like to make it into an actual product such as a website or app that can be used first locally or nationally then world wide to help the greater good of the people. I hope making Hopelink could be possible as it is quite unique idea. I hope hopelink could help alot of people if I could make a physical product of it.
