Inspiration

Homelessness in Stockton, CA, is at a crisis level, made worse by the rising cost of living. While many resources exist to support those in need, they’re often scattered and difficult to access. After speaking with both unhoused and housed individuals, a common concern emerged: people facing housing insecurity often feel invisible. With our app, we aim to make them the center of our project and create a more accessible, compassionate tool to help them live more comfortably.

Problem Statement

With all the different resources available to the homeless individuals, how can we get all of the resources easily accessible in one place?

Challenges we ran into

Many of these organizations are older and haven’t kept up with modern technology, they don’t have APIs available to retrieve data for real-time use in the app. To keep the data current. Data will need to be updated manually each day.

What we learned

For the majority of the group, there was a lack of experience when it comes to what goes into creating an application such as this one. We learned how to deploy our app and even how to implement an AI agent into apps.

Vision for the Future

HopeHub aims to expand to other cities, integrate with real-time open data from shelters and public services, and serve as a model for community-first tech innovation. It would be multilingual, expanding its range of users. We would also figure out how to alert emergency dispatch upon pressing the emergency button within the app. It is not just an app - it is a movement.
