Inspiration

When our parents first moved to Canada, they had trouble finding jobs. They looked on various job search websites and could not understand the features because everything was too complicated. Our parents were also very new to technology and did not understand how a lot of the controls worked, which is why we wanted to create a job search website suitable for refugees and immigrants new to Canada and new to technology.

What it does

Hopeful Horizons is a website that connects refugees and immigrants with job opportunities by matching their skills and experiences with available positions. We have all the available features of a normal job search website like creating a resume, job listings, training and mentoring, but made simple and more inclusive. All jobs listed on our website have a strict policy that enforces and ensures a fantastic workplace environment for immigrants and refugees.

How we built it

Hopeful Horizons is an idea created on "Canva". We used the elements and graphics provided to us to create a simple logo and website layout. We also gathered online images to make our website more vibrant and realistic. We have collected all the page designs at the end and put them into "Miro" where we could display them like a wireframe.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into a few problems with showing all of the features on our website, having to duplicate pages and manually creating the components. We also had to make sure that everything did look simple and easy to use, having to restart or reformat a lot of our work.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating a simple and visually appealing job search website idea that we are proud of.

What we learned

As beginner designers, we have learned that it takes a lot of time to come up with a layout that is both aesthetically pleasing and has practical usage. We learned to be creative with our designs and to find meaning behind our work.
