Inspiration
We got the inspiration for the sentiment analysis part from the course we took last semester. For the other theoretical parts, we were inspired by readings and the data we collected.
How we built it
We design a google form survey asking the recipients to fill it out after participating in each event. There are a total of 4 types of questions to qualify recipients' experience, degree of satisfaction, how many times participating events, the intention of sharing and participating in other events.
We also design word clouds and conduct sentiment analysis based on comments and ratings from google form questionnaires and social media.
Challenges we ran into
It’s hard for us to get real responses from people who attended our events in the past. Thus, we simulated responses and conducted sentiment analysis.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
By collecting the information of population structure and reading through the annual report of the overall organization, we filtered useful information and made decisions based on them. Within a short time we worked out with code that can help us to do the sentiment analysis.
What we learned
We learned how to brainstorm marketing strategies and analyze comments for NGOs.
What's next for Hope Worldwide Challenge
After collecting the answer by our survey from HWW previous beneficiaries, we could put their comments into our code to run for word clouds and word frequencies. Also, we can predict the ratings through comments from social media and google form using machine learning methods and sentiment analysis. After that we could come up with ways to improve existing programs HWW Boston has.
