Inspiration
The goal of the came from what someone in our group, Laura Lee, recently experienced while planning her trip to Puerto Rico over this break. She wanted a place where she can see everything all at once, where she's going, from, when, flights and hotels, also what's safe.
What it does
HooTravels is an all-in-one dashboard that encompasses all the needs you'll have, from hotels to hostels, it allows you quick and easy acces to recommended housings. However, given our timeframe we were only able to implement hotels.
How we built it
Using a lot of JavaScript, a bit of HTML, and a bit of CSS, but mostly bootstrap for design
Challenges we ran into
Using multiple APIs that didn't really fit with each other, also country domains wouldn't match and made some things more difficult to reach or had to hardcode in, stuff like refactoring the dates as well. One challenge that we really wish we solved was have gpt-3.5-turbo be able to give you insight about exactly where you're going, we just couldn't get it to work.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The fact that it looks like it works and kind of does, it gives you hotels and a safety rating.
What we learned
Besides learning JS, we also learned how to use APIs and that API documentation sometimes sucks, but also how to better structure a webstite
What's next for HooTravels
There's a lot of bugs to squash here, as soon as we get that we'll implement more of the features we wanted.
