Inspiration
Helping students find a community and help them solve any personal constraint such as budget, time commitment, and particular interest in order for them to enjoy their social life while focusing on their studies.
What it does
WhatThere: Asks users for their budget (min, max) & their interests. All the available icons will stay while the rest disappear showing the average cost per person for the event, the address, & operating hours.
HooThere: Gives users the ability to host or visit the events created by other users from the HooThere community. Hosts will put in the name of the event, address, description, and their contact information for any questions. Users and the host have the ability to opt out of the event at any time.
How we built it
Using django to store data, httml/javascript/css to design the website, python to have the program running, and leaflet to show the map along with the icons.
Challenges we ran into
Merging frontend and backend components. We also ran into icon bugs and filter issues.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to design and program a clear and concise website for all users whether their from a technical or non-technical background.
What we learned
The importance of git and being able to work in sync even if we split the roles.
What's next for HooThere
Making a mobile app version and creating more popular locations in the area.
