Submitting to
This project is being submitted to the Revamping the Old Track as well as the BU Spark and the Sargent College sponsor challenges. We also created the domain name hoothoot.tech for the Domain.com challenge.
Inspiration
Sometimes, I want a simple task completed, like submitting an assignment, picking up a printed paper, or buying a snack from the Student Center. If my friend is already outside or on the move, they are more available to help me complete the task. Hoot makes that process easier for everyone, helping build a better community overall.
What it does
Users can post a task to a message board with locations specified with what needs to be done at locations. Another user can decide to claim a task/multiple tasks, and Hoot will automatically find an optimal route that helps them go through everything.
Once tasks are claimed, they can be tracked by the person who posted them.
How we built it
We built our project in TypeScript React, with the use of the Google Maps API.
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenge integrating the Google Maps API into our project to display the maps inside our app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Automatically generating an optimal route for the user who claims the task(s).
What we learned
We learned a lot about TypeScript React and the Google Maps API through this project.
What's next for Hoot
Our next steps would be adding ways for the poster and claimer of a task to be able to communicate with each other, and improving the map previews on our generated routes.
