Inspiration
This project was inspired by having a hard time finding good study spots around grounds.
What it does
This app takes in user input of their favorite study spot and then put into a list of spots for everyone to see. This allows people to scroll through to find a new study spot that they can love.
How we built it
We built it using the React and Materials-UI libraries using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. We also used Visual Studio code and GitHub for the implementation. We used a main React Component which stores the data.
Challenges we ran into
We are beginners and new to the interface of both React and all the languages stated so implementing the storing array was difficult. We solved it by updating the array during each button press.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that this was all of our first Hackathon and we completed it. We're proud that we now know how to use React and have a better understanding of web applications in general. We're also proud of the fact that we met, came up with the idea, and implemented it in less than 24 hours.
What we learned
We learned how to use JavaScript and the mentioned libraries. We also learned how to use Git more effectively and how to deploy an app to a localhost. We also learned about the process that goes into formally creating a new idea and putting something online.
What's next for HooSpots
HooSpots has some upgrades in the future where we will have a rating system, a review section, and a picture that goes along with the HooSpot. As well as we plan to have a more advanced UI.
