Inspiration
We were inspired by basic health apps of today, but noticed a lack of community and ability to connect with others on most apps. Being able to share in the journey, keep track of your activities, and compete in a friendly competition while improving yourself.
What it does
It allows users to create tasks in three separate groups and join public or private groups to participate in these related tasks. It also allows for users to export these groups meeting or exercise times through Google Calendar.
How we built it
We built this application using Django with Python and deployed locally.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into trouble integrating our API's and creating the overall view of the app. Another challenge was the scope of the project, which we realized was too large for the time constraints, but the vision is good.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of coming together as a team and coming up with an idea and actually seeing it come to life. It was two of our member's first hackathons and we were unsure of what to expect but this was a rewarding experience.
What we learned
We learned how to manage expectations with a deadline but keep pushing to develop our project. We also learned how to work together as a group in a fast-paced environment, where time is vital and merge issues cause a lot of strife, but working through it as a team.
What's next for HoosFirst
HoosFirst can be completed to fully flesh out more of what we had envisioned when we came up with the idea. We wanted to be a hub for the self-improvement community, by providing information such as what to eat and how to keep a good mental health, as well as provide options to track that with specialized calculators and account-specific goals. We also wanted to introduce popular accounts or celebrity accounts to encourage people to join as well as join in the community.
TO RUN PROGRAM
download dependencies in requirements.txt, ensure all migrations are up to date, run python manage.py runserver and make sure you are in 127.0.0.1:8000/healthyhoos/ to see our project deployed Also ensure you make a social applications through the Django admin page, where you need to make superuser in the terminal.
