Inspiration

At UVA, we've noticed many people disposing of trash in the wrong bins. Improper waste disposal can harm the environment, pose health risks, damage the economy, and contribute to climate change. Therefore, it's essential for individuals to learn how to categorize different types of trash correctly.

What it does

In the game, players encounter five trash bins and ten pieces of trash. The objective is to drag each piece of trash to the correct bin to earn points. Players must score at least 7 out of 10 to pass.

How we built it

We utilized three different branches on GitHub for our development process. Brian focused on creating the functions for the trash bins, health bar, and trash pieces. Anna set up the basic game settings, while Alice handled all graphic design elements.

Challenges we ran into

One of our main challenges was ensuring that the health bar decreased correctly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the progress that we've made and the potential impact our game could have in educating players about proper trash categorization.

What we learned

We discovered that categorizing trash can be quite challenging. Our team conducted extensive research to understand which types of waste belong in each bin.

What's next for Hoos Recycle

Moving forward, we plan to develop a visual novel section that will lead into the game, making it more engaging. We also aim to add more pieces of trash for players to categorize.
