Inspiration
The inspiration arose as many of are group members all agree that there’s a lot to share about are living experiences in the different dorms we lived in, and especially when first entering college, it would have been nice to see reviews, pictures, and more in-depth information about the dorms we would be living in.
What it does
This project involved creating a website dedicated to showcasing on-ground housing options for UVA while allowing students to comment on each dormitory or housing option. Essentially, this would act like a sort of Course Forum but for UVA housing in which students can voice their opinions and give advice about the housing options. Upon entering the website, users can search for on-grounds housing to see information about it (including parking availability, rooming situations, renovation status, accessibility access, amenities offered, etc). The main implication of this website, however, are the reviews which can be left by UVA students. Students can sign up with the website to leave a review (with a UVA email) or to share any advice they had when dealing with the housing process or living in a dorm.
How we built it**
To build this project, we first had to choose a tech stack that everybody on our team was familiar with. The tech stack we went with was React for the front end, Flask for the back end, and Supabase for the Database. We chose this tech stack because we all had a basic knowledge of the frameworks, so could implement a project with them.
Challenges we ran into**
Challenges we ran into throughout the hackathon mainly consisted of having a lack of knowledge when it came to implementing some technologies. In addition, we often ran into commit conflicts, due to a lack of team communication. To overcome these challenges, we would spend some time learning the technologies we needed to implement through the use of guides produced by artificial intelligence and increased communication throughout our team when it came to what we were working on.
