Inspiration

This is personal to us because we drew this case from our nephews and the kids around them. Most adults don't have time for their kids, so they hand them phones to keep them busy. These same phones are now seen as distractions and parents are looking to reduce the time they spend on them, what they do on the phones. But we saw how handling a phone has increased cognitive reasoning all round, so we decided to explore the good instead of focusing on the bad reputation phones have gotten. We want to redefine it with an immersive learning experience; the things kids like, interests while adding guardrails, controls, personalization and offline capability

What it does

Helps children to learn. The parent onboards the child, they fill in the child's persona, answering basic and major questions about the child, while preserving the child's privacy. The app takes all the information gathered, uses it to bake a curriculum in the paths that available. We use age, country, region, interests, development/growth aspirations of the parent to create games, activities, for the child. It is guarded by a time duration that the parent sets, proper lighting adjusted for the kids as required, with accessibility features like voice, large texts to ensure every child is comfortable and happy to learn. Internet access is not required for the child after they are logged in and the parent has complete control, they get reports on progress and feedback as the child progresses. The amazing bit is the UI of the child and experience is personalized based on their interests and it evolves over time!

How we built it

We built the mobile app with react native while Supabase powers the entire backend with cloud functions, and Postgre db. Of course, Open AI is used to generate the curriculum, run tracks. Skia and rive are used to generate graphics and characters, this is minimal at this point but with plans to extend it as we evolve

Challenges we ran into

Token usage was limited and we had to conserve a lot and I also used two of our banked resets. It was our first time with rive and we could not get a proper character out so we had to use a sample/community based character, giving less room to options and customizations. Also this is also our first full blown react native project so we literally vibed through it. Voice generation was delayed and it kept switching from device TTS to warm neural from time to time which was frustrating

Accomplishments that we're proud of

On the fly curriculum generation. World generation coming to life. The Idea actually came to life and we are happy for this opportunity to try to help children and of course, the 2500 AI credits also made this happen!

What we learned

How much AI can easily improve the quality of life for everybody The internet is a tool and should be used properly. We also learnt that there were similar apps/ideas (our thoughts are not that far apart) and I was able to see how our idea is different from the already live ones

What's next for Honon

We will build out this idea, get a fulltime UI/UX designer and an illustrator to design assets then we would rebuild the game engine from scratch and ensure proper world generation and the learning process is reinforced. After the app is rebuilt, we plan to go into free beta tests, gather feedback and iterate as much as possible. Then relaunch and see how it plays out, after which, we will be looking to meet investors and go large
