Inspiration
As a homeowner, it can be intimidating and nerve wracking when something important breaks. There are lots of little things that a person can do to fix and maintain things like appliances or cars without relying on a service provider. This saves time and money, and gives a sense of accomplishment and independence. It’s also a great confidence builder when you figure out how to fix something yourself, but it can be time consuming and confusing tracking down the right manuals, guides, and videos to learn how to fix things.
What it does
Honeydew does the searching for you based on the type of appliance or thing you need to fix, along with the brands and model. Tell it what you need help with and it will get the user manuals and find helpful videos showing how to fix things. You can save things to your account along with reference docs and links you’ve used in the past, and get reminders about regular maintenance tasks to do around the house.
How I built it
It’s all built on Replit using a few different APIs and Google OAuth for easier logins.
Challenges I ran into
It was a bit confusing getting OAuth working in the staging environment and production.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The basic MVP works!
What I learned
What's next for Honeydew
More integrations with e-commerce to find parts needed for specific repairs or maintenance, or replacements when appropriate, and service providers for times when the fix is took complicated or goes beyond expectations.
