Homophobe Slayer

Inspiration

The social issue: Many gaming servers or workforce channels are dominated by cisgender heterosexual gamers. Many times, homophobia is left unchecked, or even promoted.

What it does

Our bot, when added to a discord server, responds to slurs and negative comments towards LGBTQ+ terms with a negative reaction and a gay meme.

How we built it

We built this bot using the Discord API and JavaScript.

Challenges we ran into

We iterated through a bunch of implementations before finally settling on this API, and doing this through Discord.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We learned a lot of APIs and technologies, and built a bot which we think will positively impact online queer spaces.

What we learned

We learned about the Discord API, and how to debug a bot (among other things).

What's next for Homophobe Slayer

We'd like to make a slack and twitter implementation as well, and allow for community contributions (and potentially machine learning).
