Inspiration

The inspiration behind our project, Hommie, stemmed from a desire to gamify and acclimate newcomers to Sheridan College. We wanted to create an engaging experience for individuals arriving at different locations on campus.

What it does

Hommie is a gamified check-in app designed for newcomers at Sheridan College. Users check in at various locations, earning points that can later be converted into promotion codes for coffee mugs. The app aims to enhance the onboarding process and make newcomers feel more connected to the campus community.

How we built it

We built Hommie using Node.js for the backend, MongoDB as our database, and hosted the application on Vercel and Google Cloud. The choice of these technologies allowed us to create a scalable and responsive solution for an optimal user experience.

Challenges we ran into

Throughout the development process, we faced challenges such as integrating the check-in functionality seamlessly and ensuring a smooth user experience. Overcoming these hurdles required creative problem-solving and collaboration among our team members.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud to have successfully implemented a check-in system that adds value to the newcomer experience. The achievement of creating a functional and engaging application is a testament to our teamwork and dedication.

What we learned

Building Hommie provided us with valuable insights into gamification, user experience design, and the intricacies of integrating various technologies. We gained hands-on experience in developing a solution that meets both functional and user satisfaction criteria.

What's next for Hommie

In the future, we plan to enhance Hommie by incorporating gamified features and refining the user interface. Expanding the app's reach and incorporating user feedback will be key as we strive to continually improve and tailor the experience for Sheridan College newcomers.
