Inspiration
Crime investigation today faces a major challenge: data is scattered, delayed, and underutilized. While researching real-world crime analysis systems, we noticed that most investigations still rely heavily on manual reporting, fragmented databases, and reactive decision-making.
We were inspired by:
- Smart city surveillance systems
- AI-based profiling in movies and research papers
- The growing power of LLMs, RAG, and Vector Databases
This led us to a simple question:
What if we could build a single, intelligent system that connects crime data, police activity, and predictive AI in real time?
That question became Homicide Crime Vector Analyzer (HVA).
What it does
HVA (Homicide Vector Analyzer) is an AI-powered crime investigation and profiling support system designed to assist law enforcement with:
- π Real-time crime zone visualization on a city map
- π΄ Dynamic red zones for high-risk and active crime locations
- π§ββοΈ Resource management system for police, forensic teams, and investigators
- π§ AI-based criminal profiling using past crime data
- ποΈ Incident reporting system for locations like houses, shops, bakeries, etc.
- π RAG monitoring dashboard to track retrieval and context usage
- π Fully connected investigation network between constables and analysts
At its core, HVA uses: [ \textbf{RAG + VectorDB + LLM} \rightarrow \textbf{Smart Crime Analysis & Prediction} ]
How we built it
We designed HVA as a modular, scalable AI system:
1. Data Collection & Research
We studied crime patterns, FIR-style reports, and public crime datasets. Instead of using massive raw datasets, we filtered high-impact crime-related documents.
2. Vector Database & Embeddings
All documents were converted into embeddings and stored in a Vector Database. This allows fast, semantic search rather than keyword-based search.
3. RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation)
When a query or investigation request is made:
- Relevant vectors are retrieved
- Only the most useful information is sent to the LLM
- This avoids hallucination and improves accuracy
4. Criminal Profiling Pipeline
When a suspect is caught:
- A constable uploads the suspect profile
- The LLM analyzes past patterns
- The system predicts possible future behaviors
5. Frontend Dashboard (Prototype)
We designed:
- City crime map with red zones
- Incident reporting panel
- Resource & contact system
- RAG token monitoring
- Backend architecture (dummy implementation for now)
All of this was built as a proof-of-concept system for real-world deployment.
Challenges we ran into
- β οΈ Lack of real crime data due to privacy and legal restrictions
- β οΈ Understanding RAG deeply and optimizing context windows
- β οΈ Integrating prediction with profiling responsibly
- β οΈ Designing a system for police workflows without real officersβ direct input
- β οΈ Time constraints during the hackathon
Despite this, we successfully built a working conceptual system that can be expanded into a real product.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- β Designed a complete AI-driven crime investigation architecture
- β Successfully integrated RAG + Vector Search + LLM logic
- β Built a smart crime visualization dashboard
- β Created a system that shifts policing from reactive β predictive
- β Delivered a strong real-world use case at Innerve X
What we learned
- How RAG actually works in production-level AI
- The power of Vector Databases in unstructured data
- How hard it is to design AI systems for public safety
- That ethical AI matters deeply in law enforcement
- Team collaboration, rapid prototyping, and presentation under pressure
What's next for Homicide Crime Vector Analyzer
Our future roadmap includes:
- π Integration with real police databases (with legal approvals)
- π‘ Live CCTV & IoT sensor integration
- 𧩠Stronger crime prediction models
- π Advanced privacy & security layers
- π Deployment as a Smart City Crime Intelligence Platform
- ποΈ Fully functional backend with real-time data pipelines
HVA is our vision of the future of crime investigation β intelligent, connected, predictive, and fast.
