Inspiration

Distance Learning isn’t working in the way it exists right now! And the COVID-19 has proved it! Teachers are torn between searching of effective resources, tips, suggestions on how to teach online and between constant process of evaluation of the kids assignments. Students are staring at screens more than ever during the coronavirus lockdown. They are unmotivated to learn, feel confused, abandoned and they lacked communication and interaction with their peers. Parents are exhausted by spending their days troubleshooting lessons given over videochat and helping their kids with the home learning. The coronavirus pandemic is increasing academic gaps, caused tensions in the families and high stress in a daily life. In response to this situation, we decided to create a Homework - an online learning space which will bring together students, teachers and parents to engage in deeply effective remote learning. We believe, that education can unite, can inspire and can change the world!

What it does

The online educational platform Homework will provide access to high-quality education which corresponds to the global challenges of the 21st century and possibilities of deep intellectual and personal exploration. This is not just a platform, this is a space of possibilities, which can expire and motivate to learn, to search, to ideate, to create. The Homework approach is built on key cornerstones:

Application of machine learning, AI and neuroscience, which will help teachers to make effective interventions and will save them time on marking and data analysis learning for better evaluation of kid’s abilities and progress. Our platform is fully equipped with the tools and resources that are needed for teacher to have their classes interactive and interesting for students! There is no need for teacher to review a bunch of different materials to find something interesting for kids. We have everything and we can create additional virtual-teaching tools and materials depends on teachers needs.
Establishing and working with a team of coaches, who will teach children not only academic knowledge, but will develop comprehensive learning skills and show how to use knowledge in a real life situations. Coaches of the educational online platform Homework can motivate and inspire their students for further learning. Our counselors focus on the social and emotional health of students (and families) in an effort to ensure their confidence and success during the learning path.
Development of the curriculum, based on the design thinking approach, that will take place in multidisciplinary projects that centre on complex phenomena and develop learners’ problem‑solving and critical thinking skills.
Launching a Design Thinking kid’s online HUB, which will create meaningful and engaging learning experiences for students. In the framework of this HUB students will have a chance to join special courses, such as Entrepreneurship, App Design, Leadership, Design Thinking, Career Exploration and Project Management, that will teach a process of ideation, validation and rapid prototyping to create real solutions for real users by addressing real problems currently facing our local and global communities.

How we built it

We are going to use ReactJS for the frontend and NodeJS for the backend, as well as application of the AI and ML.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge we faced is a lack of knowledge and understanding of software engineering, AI and ML. Therefore, we were not able to develop MVP during the days of Hackathon. However, we've received a lot of useful information from our mentors, skill mentors and other participants of the event. Now, we have understanding of the further implementation of the project and clear picture of the platform we would like to develop.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are inspired of the idea to provide an equal access to high quality education. With the opportunities that online education can provide we can reach and connect teachers from different parts of the world to share their experience; we can motivate and inspire our children to be responsible citizens, to believe in themselves and to know that they are super talented; we can empower parents with the knowledge on how to communicate with their child and to see his/her natural capacities. With the Homework we have a chance to cultivate exceptional thinkers, prepared for the future.This is the reason we're driven by!

What we learned

The Aha moment comes in a productive collaboration with people who has unstoppable desire and who believes in the idea capabilities and strengths. The absolute treasure of each project is a team. To create something really great you have to be opened for specialists with different professional background. This, will make the project more powerful and empower it with creative solutions.
