Inspiration

Buying a home is one of the biggest life decisions, yet existing platforms overwhelm users with listings instead of guidance. We were inspired by the experience of first-time buyers entering a new life stage, facing countless trade-offs with no clear way to prioritize what truly matters.

What it does

HomeSwipe is an AI-powered home discovery app that delivers personalized recommendations and human-readable insights. Users share their lifestyle priorities, and HomeSwipe explains trade-offs, highlights risks, and helps them confidently compare and decide.

How we built it

We built HomeSwipe using React and TypeScript for a swipe-based interface, and integrated the Gemini API to generate contextual recommendations and explanations. The app focuses on AI-assisted decision support rather than automation.

Challenges we ran into

Balancing depth and simplicity was the biggest challenge. We had to ensure AI insights were useful, concise, and trustworthy while avoiding overwhelming users or hallucinated conclusions, especially under hackathon time constraints.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully turned a complex, high-stakes decision into an intuitive, AI-guided experience. Building a functional AI-powered product with clear UX in a short timeframe was a major win.

What we learned

We learned how to design responsible, user-centric AI systems, refine prompts for real-world decision support, and align AI outputs with product UX goals.
