HomePilot AI – Intelligent Home Assistant

Inspiration

Managing everyday home activities can be challenging. From remembering tasks and organizing shopping lists to maintaining daily routines and understanding electricity consumption, people need a simpler way to stay organized. We built HomePilot AI to bring these everyday activities together in one intelligent assistant.

What it does

HomePilot AI is a web-based assistant that helps users manage their daily home activities through a conversational interface.

Key features include:

• AI Home Assistant: Interact with the assistant using natural-language requests.
• Smart Routines: Organize leaving-home, arriving-home, and bedtime routines.
• Task Management: View, add, and complete daily tasks.
• Shopping List Management: Add, view, and remove shopping items.
• Energy Analytics: Analyze electricity consumption and display energy insights.
• Personal Work Management: Organize personal work through the assistant.

How we built it

We built the frontend using React, JavaScript, Vite, and CSS. The backend uses Python and FastAPI, with Pydantic for request validation and Axios for communication between the frontend and backend. We organized the functionality into separate tools for routines, tasks, shopping, energy analytics, and personal work.

Challenges we faced

One challenge was connecting the React frontend to the FastAPI backend and handling communication errors. We also worked on organizing different features into reusable modules and presenting information in a clear dashboard. Testing and debugging each feature helped us improve the application's structure and usability.

What we learned

Building HomePilot AI helped us gain practical experience in full-stack development, REST API integration, modular Python programming, frontend state management, and data visualization. We also learned how to use Git and GitHub to manage and share our project.

What's next

Future improvements include integrating real smart-home devices, adding more advanced AI capabilities, improving personalized energy recommendations, and deploying the application for wider access.

HomePilot AI is our step toward making everyday home management simpler, more organized, and more intelligent.
