Inspiration
As a homeowner, I kept missing critical maintenance tasks—leading to costly repairs. I wanted a simple, no-fuss tool that takes the guesswork out of home care, tailored to how we maintain homes day-to-day.
What it does
It creates personalized annual home maintenance calendars based on house type/age, sends 2-week reminders, shows task costs, and recommends local pros—all stored in the browser, no login needed.
How we built it
We used vanilla JS for core logic, HTML/CSS for UI, LocalStorage to save user data, and Geolocation API to match regional service providers. Chart.js visualizes savings vs. repair risks.
Challenges we ran into
Balancing task distribution across seasons for different home types/ages was tough—older homes needed more frequent tasks without overwhelming users. Also, sourcing accurate regional cost data took time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The tool generates a full calendar in <2 seconds, works without logins, and clearly shows users how preventive care saves money. It’s intuitive for first-time and seasoned homeowners alike.
What we learned
I mastered local storage persistence, regional data integration, and user-centric UX design—plus how to translate real homeowner pain points into functional features.
What's next for this project
Add email/SMS reminders, integrate premium ad-free plans, let users edit task lists, and connect to provider booking systems. We’ll also add multi-language support for broader usability.
