Inspiration

HomeGuard was inspired by a common problem: when homeowners leave their houses unattended for weeks or months due to work, travel, or other commitments, issues such as water leakage, electrical faults, pest problems, and security risks can go unnoticed. We wanted to create a reliable solution that gives homeowners peace of mind even when they are far away.

What It Does

HomeGuard is a smart home protection platform designed to keep vacant homes safe, clean, and well-maintained. It connects homeowners with trusted local service providers and trained inspection agents. Key features include scheduled home inspections, timestamped photo and video reports, maintenance services, and emergency assistance.

How We Built It

We designed HomeGuard as a user-friendly platform that brings home monitoring and maintenance services together in one place. The platform focuses on connecting homeowners with verified service providers, allowing them to schedule inspections, request maintenance, receive property condition reports, and respond quickly to potential problems.

What We Learned

Through this project, we learned how to identify real-world problems, design user-focused solutions, plan a full-stack application, and explore how technology can improve property management. We also gained a better understanding of service-provider verification, emergency workflows, and the importance of building user trust.

Challenges We Faced

One of our main challenges was designing a solution that could address different risks, including water leakage, electrical issues, unauthorized entry, and maintenance requirements, within a single platform. We also considered how to ensure service reliability, protect user information, and provide timely updates without making the platform complicated to use.

Future Scope

In the future, HomeGuard could integrate IoT sensors, AI-powered anomaly detection, automated alerts, and live monitoring to identify potential problems earlier.
