Inspiration
Have you ever faced a broken chair, a loose hinge, or a squeaky door handle at home, but didn’t know where to start? 🪑🔩 We built HomeFixGuide to turn a single photo into a complete repair guide. With just one snapshot, users can:
Discover DIY repair tutorials on YouTube 🎥
Request help from experts 👷
Buy recommended repair kits directly from Amazon 🛒
We wanted to empower anyone to fix things around the house easily, without endless searching and guessing.
What I learned
How to integrate image analysis APIs to detect repair needs from a photo.
How to connect search results with different platforms (YouTube, Amazon, expert services).
Designing a smooth end-to-end user flow where everything works with just one photo.
How we built it
Users take or upload a photo of the damaged item.
The app processes the image using a custom analysis pipeline.
Based on the result, it provides:
YouTube videos for self-repair tutorials
Product links for tools and kits on Amazon
Direct access to expert help if needed
Challenges
Reducing the base64 image size while keeping analysis accurate.
Managing asynchronous API calls (YouTube, Amazon, expert DB) smoothly.
Ensuring the UX feels like a single seamless experience instead of juggling multiple apps.
