Inspiration
Figuring out how to purchase a home can be difficult. We address the Fannie Mae Technica Challenge by developing the Homebuyer Readiness Evaluator.
What it does
The Homebuyer Readiness Evaluator calculates the user's readiness to purchase a home by factoring in the user's credit rating, loan amount, appraised value, gross monthly income, monthly car payment, monthly credit card payment, monthly mortgage payment, and student loan payment. If the user is not ready to purchase a home, the evaluator will give suggestions to improve the user's opportunity to purchase a home in the future.
How we built it
The project was built using Python, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into challenges with validating the form data and displaying different results based on varying conditionals. We had difficulty with getting JavaScript to read in the provided dataset so we ended up processing and evaluating homebuyer readiness on the provided dataset using Python.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of being able to complete and deploy the application, understanding the conditions that need to be satisfied to purchase a home as we did not have any background on it, and being able to overcome our challenge with programming language limitations.
What we learned
We learned a lot about the technical side to the finance industry and how to build and design an intuitive web application to help others understand this often confusing topic
