Inspiration

Paris has always been a city of dreams. A city where, for centuries, people have arrived to follow their passions — from the Renaissance to today. Today’s Paris is built by immigrants, students, young professionals, and dreamers who leave their homes to build something new. But in the middle of ambition and busy lives, many of them share the same quiet feeling:they miss home-cooked food. Between long work hours, studies, and small Parisian kitchens, cooking every day isn’t always possible. Yet what they crave isn’t restaurant food — it’s the comfort, warmth, and authenticity of a home meal. On the other side of the city are people who cook every day anyway —grandmothers, aunties, students, and home cooks — who have the skill, time, and love for cooking, and who would welcome a small side income. The idea for Homebite was born at a shared table. We realized that cooking for two or ten takes almost the same effort — just different portions. Homebite connects these two worlds.A platform where real people cook real food for real people — not chefs, not restaurants.Just home food, made with care, shared within the city.

What it does

HomeBite is a peer-to-peer marketplace that enables individuals who cook at home to share meals they are already preparing with people nearby. Cooks list available dishes on the platform, while users browse meals by location, cuisine, and menu of the day. Orders are placed for pickup or short-distance local delivery, keeping food affordable and hyperlocal. By turning everyday cooking into shareable meals, HomeBite reduces food waste, creates micro-income opportunities, and strengthens local communities.

How we built it

We built HomeBite as a mobile-first, peer-to-peer marketplace using Lovable.ai, focusing on simplicity, convenience, and real home-cooked meals. Cooks can list meals they are already preparing for themselves, organized by cuisine, country, and neighborhood, while users can browse dishes by their preferences and order for pickup or local delivery. Profiles, ratings, and availability schedules make it easy for cooks and consumers to interact seamlessly. The platform is designed to fit naturally into everyday routines, turning home cooking into a shareable, accessible experience for the local community, while helping people discover and enjoy meals they might otherwise miss.

Challenges we ran into

Navigating food safety regulations for home-prepared meals Building trust between cooks and consumers Preventing cooks from being treated as full-scale restaurants Designing a fair and safe experience for both sides These challenges pushed us to carefully balance compliance, UX, and community trust.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Identified a real, data-backed problem with strong social impact Designed a clear MVP aligned with sustainability goals Created value for all stakeholders: cooks, consumers, and the environment Aligned economic incentives with food waste reduction

What we learned

HomeBite turns the kitchen into a launchpad for self-confidence, transforming home cooks into micro-entrepreneurs who see the immediate value of their skills through a steady stream of side income. By listing extra portions of meals they are already preparing for themselves, neighbors like Grandma Marie (French 🇫🇷) directly tackle the massive, untapped market of home-cooked food in Paris, where the demand for authentic, affordable meals has long outpaced corporate delivery options. This peer-to-peer exchange effectively eliminates food waste at the source, ensuring that every "Neighborhood Special" is shared rather than discarded. Standardizing every listing with community ratings and AI-generated tags like 'Halal' or 'High-Protein' builds the trust necessary to unlock this hidden economy. As the terracotta progress bars deplete with each sale, they provide a powerful visual confirmation of success, proving that a sustainable, impact-driven business can thrive right in the heart of the local community.
