Inspiration

The idea for Home24x7 is not an outlandish one, especially amongst the circles we frequent as international students. Imagine not having to ask around for a plumber when your pipes are leaking or parse through hundreds of advertisements seen across the streets for a reputable electrician. After listening to the various pitches at the opening ceremony, we knew that this concept would be the perfect tool for helping out our local communities where they most need it, back at home. Marginalized communities in the US are disproportionately poor compared to the rest of the country, and this all starts back in their own homes. One of the most important tools for wealth generation and conservation is house ownership, however, this advantage has been negated by decades of red-lining and exclusionary policies. This has led to minority populated neighborhoods having the lowest land values and appreciation of any other community and leads to these residents living in decaying spaces through no fault of their own. With Home24x7, we plan to address this issue from the inside out. By providing a safe and trusted platform for the hiring of workers for any kind of home repair, we give an opportunity to these marginalized people to better their own homes at affordable prices, without the fear of being unfairly targeted because of their current situation. Additionally, by providing the workers with a steady market of clients, these historically minority-dominated professions can flourish in either fixing up their local neighborhoods or enjoying new clients in another city.

What it does

It's a home service app that makes the life of a person easier with just a click. The app ranges from providing simple help like cleaning to complex electrical repairs all through certified professionals in your locality. By doing so it also provides employment to local workers.

How we built it

Flutter front end and Firebase back end.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into some technical errors while fetching the list of workers from the backend.
