Inspiration

As a busy professional in the US, I struggled to find reliable, verified home service providers—endless vetting, messy payments, and no way to track progress. I wanted a platform that combined trust, simplicity, and modern design, solving the pain points my family and friends faced daily with home maintenance.

What it does

Home Services Pro is an all-in-one platform for booking verified home service pros (cleaning, handyman, gardening), managing household tasks, processing secure post-service payments, and subscribing to discounted recurring plans. It features real-time progress tracking, issue reporting, and a polished UI with smooth animations.

How we built it

We built the frontend with React/Next.js and TailwindCSS, using Framer Motion for animations. The backend leverages Node.js/TypeScript and PostgreSQL for data storage. Stripe APIs handle payments/tips, Firebase powers real-time chat/sync, and AWS hosts the platform. We prioritized responsive design for desktop/mobile/tablet.

Challenges we ran into

GDPR/US privacy compliance required rigorous data handling adjustments. Syncing real-time provider availability with booking flows caused edge-case bugs (e.g., slots taken mid-checkout). Balancing complex animations with performance also took iterative testing to resolve.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created a seamless booking flow (≤5 steps), implemented reliable post-service payment logic, and delivered a UI that’s both functional and visually cohesive. Users love the real-time tracking and verified provider badges—trust metrics we prioritized from day one.

What we learned

We deepened our understanding of cross-regulatory compliance (GDPR/US privacy) and real-time data sync. We also learned that prioritizing micro-interactions and animation polish boosts user trust and engagement far more than we anticipated.

What's next for this project

We plan to add native calendar integrations, expand service categories, and build an AI-powered provider recommendation engine. We also aim to launch self-service provider onboarding (background check submission) and a loyalty program for frequent users.
