Inspiration
A study conducted in 2017 reveals that 4.6% of the population in Denmark suffers from loneliness: that is, about 210,000 Danes feel lonely. The ones who suffer most of loneliness - the study reveals a little surprise - are young people between 16 and 29 years and over 85. We think that in this situation of isolation the youngest could be highly exposed to depression. Our aim is to bring back the family warmth and companionship in these moments of quarantine in which we feel more alone. We take inspiration from the Hygge philosophy and its principles of companionship and warmth.
What it does
Users can find and join online events near them, connect with their neighbors (and not only them) to support each other in quarantine and recreate experiences. Users could join a community that helps them embrace solitude without feeling lonely. Users can:
- Connect with others: neighboors, friends, families.
- Ask things on a local dashboard: Ask neighboor to help them with grocery shopping if they’re ill.
- Participate to events, planned to meet new people or virtually hang out with your community.
How I built it
Our project is still in a prototyping phase. We choose an app cause of the target chosen: we believe that this is the best and the easiest way to engage the target (18-30 years old) and let them link with a community.
Challenges I ran into
The platform merges two levels of solidarity and community:
- Users can connect with other people living in a common location. A local neighborhood hub will allow users to stay informed about what’s going on in their area and set a volunteer program that delivers groceries to neighbors with health problems.
- Digital communication helps users connect with other people with similar interests, friends and families that live abroad, sharing experiences despite the distance.
The most challenging part was to define the user flow of the experience. The user would, as you can see in the prototype, navigate through the app by various types of navigation: interests, map, calendar.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We have managed to do some user tests, to test our prototype and the user flow. The results are good and the target has found useful and engaging this app. This app is not just only useful for quarantine: it could be a perfect service even later.
What I learned
Smart-working is never easy. But creativity and motivation are the only way to create meaningful projects in difficult times.
What's next for Home Lab
Next steps: continue research to improve content and mood and feel. Work in agile so that we could launch the app as soon as possible.
