Inspiration

We saw countless talented home cooks with unique, authentic dishes but no platform to reach customers. We wanted to empower them to turn their cooking skills into thriving businesses and connect communities through homemade meals.

What it does

Our app enables home cooks to become entrepreneurs by showcasing their signature dishes. Customers browse nearby home kitchens, place orders, and receive freshly cooked meals delivered directly to their doorsteps.

How we built it

🍲 Home Food Application – Empowering Home Cooks, Connecting Communities!

This home food application was built to enable passionate home cooks to become local food entrepreneurs. Users can list their homemade dishes, set available quantities, and serve meals directly to their nearby community — creating a hyperlocal and authentic food-sharing experience.

🚀 Tech Stack Overview:

Built with: bolt.new – for fast web, and Android app development using React and Expo Go

Database & Auth: Supabase – handles user authentication and hosts all application data

Deployment: Netlify – used to deploy the web app with a custom domain

Domain Provider: IONOS – domain name purchased for branding and access

Whether you’re hungry for homemade meals or looking to share your cooking talent, this app brings food and people together. 🍛

Challenges we ran into

Balancing food safety compliance, delivery logistics, and ensuring a smooth user experience for non-tech-savvy cooks was a major challenge. Also, building trust between home cooks and new customers required careful UX and verification processes.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud to have created a platform that not only functions well but also create real economic opportunities. Several home cooks made their first income through our pilot program, which validated our mission.

What we learned

We learned that building a tech platform is only half the battle—creating a business that uplifts people requires empathy, iteration, and deep understanding of users' real-life challenges. Through feedback from test users, we discovered that many home cooks are eager to monetize their skills but are overwhelmed by where to start. They need not just a marketplace, but a support system.

We learned that empowerment isn’t just about access—it’s about removing barriers. From simplifying account creation to helping cooks set fair prices, everything we built had to support confidence and independence. Language accessibility, mobile-first design, and onboarding support will be critical going forward.

On the technical side, we also gained valuable experience working with rapid deployment tools like bolt.new, Supabase, and Netlify, and how to integrate them for a seamless cross-platform experience.

What's next for Home Food

We’re committed to turning this into a real-world platform that empowers home cooks to build sustainable micro-businesses. Here’s what’s coming next:

Cook Onboarding & Education: We plan to launch a simple onboarding course for new cooks covering food safety, pricing strategies, customer service, and how to photograph and describe their meals.

In-App Cook Profiles: We’ll add cook bios, story features, and customer reviews to build personal brands and deepen trust in the community.

Secure Payments & Order Tracking: Integrating Stripe or Razorpay for smooth payments, along with real-time order tracking for both cooks and customers.

Partnerships with Local Delivery Services: To help with last-mile delivery, especially in densely populated neighborhoods.

City-Level Expansion: We'll start with pilot programs in a few cities and gradually expand based on demand and local regulations.

Subscription Meal Plans: Giving cooks recurring revenue and customers a convenient, home-cooked meal option weekly.

Cook Ambassador Program: Recruiting lead cooks in each city to act as community leaders and help onboard others—creating a true grassroots movement.

In the long run, Home Food isn’t just a tech platform—it’s an ecosystem for food entrepreneurs. We envision a world where thousands of home cooks can earn a living doing what they love, all while bringing people together through the joy of homemade meals.
