Inspiration
There are over 600,000 homeless people in America, and one of our team members' community had a very high homeless population. We wanted to create an idea that would connect community members and provide homeless people with free resources. So, we created Home Bound.
What it does
Home Bound connects members of the community with volunteer opportunities so they can do community service. Each hour of community service they do translates to one helpful resource being donated to a homeless shelter. We also have an option for people to donate money or resources directly if they do not have the time to do volunteering. At Home Bound, we want to celebrate personal growth and community involvement.
How we built it
We used Figma to create a mockup and then coded our website using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in replit.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge we ran into was making the typewriter text stay within the screen. We couldn't hardcode it because sometimes screen sizes are different but after some research and a lot of trial and error, we were able to fix it. Another issue we ran into was making the login/signup screens connect to the rest of the website because we were getting some errors but eventually we fixed it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Overall, we're proud of our final product, Home Bound. Working together across different time zones was a bit challenging, but we were able to make it work. Also, we didn't all have a lot of experience with web development before, but we learned as we went along!
What we learned
We learned a lot about how to make interactive elements using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and some cool text and image effects.
What's next for Home Bound
In the future, we'd like to expand Home Bound to include real-time partnerships with local homeless shelters. We would also love to develop an app for more mobility.
