Inspiration
We've all been impacted by and enjoyed the games behind collectable cards and have our own collections. We wanted to create a game which lets people see the values of different cards in a fun way. We named it HoLoCards because you're doing Higher or Lower on Cards and it's short and sweet.
What it does
Picks 2 random cards from selected series and prompts the user to select the one they believe is more expensive. The user continues until they pick wrong or choose to stop/restart. It keeps track of the user's score and has a leaderboard for top scores of signed in users.
How we built it
Using MongoDB for our backend, figma for the front end, and Nextjs to assemble them.
Challenges we ran into
API routing, learning MongoDB and databases in general, session tracking, and sourcing images and prices for cards.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a working website that we personally enjoy and will use in the future for our group's first hackathon.
What we learned
An intro to Databases, Nextjs, and Figma.
What's next for HoLoCards
Upscaling the database to include more cards and more franchises such as MLB, One piece, NBA, and Soccer cards. Improved filtering for increased user customization.
