Inspiration

Contemporary education system, in general, is driven in a mainly bureaucratic way, not aware of individual needs, which makes it impersonal. It creates major dilemmas in the formation of the child, the adolescent, the young person, in personal development and a healthy professional orientation. The environment we are talking about leads to a high rate of school drop worldwide as well as to a greater rate of those without a personal vision upon the professional sphere, based on concrete interests, tested, providing real, intrinsic motivation, to the youngster in question.

On the other hand, as Sir Ken Robinson says "Education is personal."

So let us make it that way, and although we have Covid going on, we could help doing it online, pro bono, for the moment.

What it does

Starting from general, global observations and browsing the specific needs of our reality, locally, we believe that starting this center, by embedding in all curricular components, the principle of voluntary involvement of children in the practical activities, through the concept of stimulating both spheres, physical as well as intellectual, mental and spiritual, with the full range of subjects in applied sciences, arts, motor literacy, sports activities and free, unstructured, creative play, in a safe environment, it represents the beginning, the pilot project of the EDUCATIONAL (R)EVOLUTION, the one oriented to each child, as an individual.

How I built it

I built the idea some years ago, and we, as a team, are starting it now on line, on www.holistic-edu.ro, with the goal though, to take everybody outside as soon as possible and to involve them in all the practical activities we encourage.

Challenges I ran into

Now, as it is a pro bono activity on behalf of every specialist contributor involved, the challenge was to get them all together aboard (more than 12 well renowned and busy professionals, as lectors), to have the online platform ready and functional, to have the financing for the administration of the project, and last but not least and maybe the most important to have the help we need for building an infrastructure designated for when we will do it all face to face.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Getting all these professionals together on this pro bono non formal interdisciplinary education project.

What I learned

I am in a continuous learning process, but was astonished to hear and to have all these wonderful professionals agreeing on the contribution to the education process of children of all ages through practical activities even in challenging conditions like the ones we are experiencing.

What's next for Holistic

Getting the groove on and getting feedback from the kids and their families, all in the name of practical, applied content for them, delivered as to help discover and unleash their full potential, known or yet unknown.

More precisely, through this project we intend to lay the foundation premises for personal performance in various professional activities, through a holistic development, oriented to individual needs, and a method based on applied, intuitive, discovery.

Nonetheless, we make it our mission to take challenges and perpetuum self improvement to that spot of interest where talent is no longer thought as a born precondition for success, but conscious, meaningful and oriented session by session practice instead.
