HoliBot

Inspiration

Being kids who grew up only knowing the playful side of this festival we was curious about why it is celebrated and how did it all start. Upon discovering that we knew next to nothing about such a important festival we decided to make a discord bot that tests and teaches others about the facts.

What it does

Holi bot is a discord bot that has two primary features (-color, -trivia). With the color feature users can add colors to their profile picture allowing everyone to celebrate despite the ongoing pandemic and its restrictions. With the trivia feature users can see how much they know/learn about the history of this festival.

How we built it

We built this bot using discordrewrite.py in addition to pillow for image processing and linode in order to host our bot so that it is always online.

Challenges we ran into

As both of us were fairly new to making discord bots it was extremely hard to create commands and figure out how this API worked. In addition, we also had difficulties hosting with linode as none of us had ever worked with hosting files on the cloud.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The thing we are most proud of is being able to make something that allows us to share our culture with any and everyone. Furthermore, we are also proud that we were able to finish everything that we set out to do.
