Inspiration
We were inspired by the way hobbies seem to come and go as fast as trends. We also noticed many people that would invest a lot of money into supplies for a new hobby, only to jump into a new one within a week. We saw this as unnecessary spending and environmental waste since many of these supplies would end up in a landfill. HobbyTrade was created to allow people to try new hobbies and reduce waste.
What it does
Our prototype showcases some of the features of our app. Users can customize their profile and upload trade requests. Users begin on the homepage where they can browse popular hobbies and access their messages where they can connect with other traders. They can also view the HobbyHub where other traders' creations are displayed. The homepage search bar can be used to search by hobby. Users can then click on the listing that appears and send a message to the trader. If they both have items they would like to exchange, they can request a trade. If the trade is successful, the trade is marked as booked and a purple circle will appear around the images of the items.
How we built it
We utilized Standard Design practices and Figma to create the prototype for our app.
Challenges we ran into
Since this was our first time using Figma and creating a prototype, we ran into some problems with connecting the screens with one another.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of our prototype and our idea which we believe has a lot of potential.
What we learned
We learned a lot about app design and implementing the ideal user interface and experience.
What's next for HobbyTrade
A next step for HobbyTrade would be to move it from prototype into a functioning app. A feature that we would add in the future is a selling platform in app for users that would like to sell their creations.
