Inspiration

As someone who juggles multiple hobbies,classes and tasks —from learning japanese to gardening to digital art—I found myself constantly losing track of my progress and goals. Traditional productivity apps felt too rigid for creative pursuits, while hobby-specific apps were too narrow. I wanted a unified platform that could adapt to any passion while providing meaningful insights and motivation.

What it does

HobbyHive is a comprehensive task and hobby management platform that helps users track their passions, set meaningful goals, and stay motivated. Users can create hobby profiles, log activities with detailed metrics, set milestones, manage related tasks and learning paths, and integrate with their calendar for better time management. The AI assistant provides personalized recommendations and learning resources tailored to each hobby.

How we built it

Built with React, TypeScript, and Vite for a modern, responsive frontend. Implemented Radix UI components with Tailwind CSS for accessible, beautiful interfaces. The AI features leverage context-aware prompting to provide relevant hobby insights and recommendations.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was designing a flexible data model that could accommodate vastly different hobby types—from quantifiable activities like running to subjective ones like painting. Balancing feature richness with simplicity required multiple iterations. Implementing real-time updates while maintaining good performance across different hobby tracking scenarios also proved complex. (although this is currently a work in progress)

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Created an intuitive interface that works seamlessly for any hobby type. Built a robust task management system integrated with hobby goals. Implemented smart calendar integration that suggests optimal practice times. The AI assistant successfully provides contextual, helpful recommendations. Achieved excellent accessibility scores and responsive design across all devices.

What we learned

User experience is paramount—no matter how powerful the features, they're useless if not intuitive. Context switching between different hobbies requires careful state management. The importance of progressive disclosure in complex applications. Real-time features significantly enhance user engagement when implemented thoughtfully.

What's next for HobbyHive

Planning to pivot into something that includes all your daily tasks,hobbies and routines, as well as add social features for hobby communities and progress sharing. Advanced analytics with detailed progress visualization and predictive insights. Mobile app development for better on-the-go tracking. Integration with IoT devices for automatic activity logging. Expanded AI capabilities including personalized coaching and achievement recognition.
