Hluvukiso: Empowering Safety, One Voice at a Time
The inspiration for Hluvukiso came from a harrowing incident in our community where a woman discovered a kidnapped child suffering from severe abuse but felt too afraid to intervene directly due to the kidnapper's known connections to a gang. This incident highlighted the critical need for a safe and anonymous way to report such situations and seek support.
What We Learned
Through our initial research, we learned about the significant barriers individuals face when trying to report gender-based violence, harassment, and discrimination. Fear of retaliation, lack of anonymity, and limited access to immediate support are just a few of the obstacles. We also gained a deeper understanding of the specific needs of LGBTQI+ communities and the importance of creating an inclusive platform that addresses these needs.
How We Plan to Build Our Project
Planning and Research: We will start by conducting surveys and interviews within our community to identify key pain points and necessary features.
- Design: Our team will design an intuitive and user-friendly interface, ensuring accessibility for all users.
- Technology: Using Flutter, we will develop the app to be compatible with both iOS and Android devices. We plan to incorporate advanced features like real-time reporting, geolocation services, and voice-activated recording triggered by the word "SNAP."
Challenges We Experienced
- Anonymity and Security: Ensuring user anonymity while maintaining robust data security is a significant challenge. We plan to implement advanced encryption techniques and strict privacy policies to address this. 2.Technical Hurdles: Developing the voice-activated recording feature and integrating real-time reporting and geolocation services may present technical challenges that will require innovative solutions.
We are excited to embark on this journey to build Hluvukiso, a solution designed to empower and protect our community, ensuring that every voice can be heard and supported safely.
