What is the problem your solution addresses?
In fields including the technology, design, and business industry, there is an emphasis for college student to have experience, whether it's through an internship or personal project outside of class. However, especially with side projects, students often find it difficult to start on or to find collaborators for those types of projects, despite feeling the need to do them.
Why did you pick this solution, and how does it address the problem?
Following the co-existence track, we wanted to learn about college students who have or have not participated in side-projects, and to understand the ways they might want to give back and make a difference in their community. We wanted to gain insight into why students may or may not choose to pursue side-projects to create a solution where like-minded people can connect with each other in a meaningful way. Two main frustrations participants expressed were the lack of guidance when it comes to starting side-projects, and having to go out of their way to find projects. Our app, Hivemind, is a platform that allows for college students who either want to start a project or to find and join one to match with each other based on similar skills and interests. Additionally, students can connect with mentors whose purposes are to guide students through the projects they are working on.
