๐ก Inspiration
University campuses such as UBC are huge. This makes it hard to form lasting connections in the large classes. There is also a lack of a centralized platform where students at campus can have equal access to discover events, and easily access mental health services. A study of Canadian university students found more than 66 per cent reported feeling "very lonely". And that feeling of loneliness is often correlated to various mental illnesses.
โWhat hive does
Hive is a mobile app designed to improve the collective mental health of university students by increasing social connection among students, engagement with on-campus events and improved accessibility for health resources. The hive app is specific to the campus that each student is enrolled at, so it only shows information that is relevant to you.
๐ How we built it
To create this design prototype of hive, I used Figma, as well as Adobe Illustrator.
โน๏ธ Challenges we ran into
This was my first time prototyping with Figma, so there was a lot I had to learn!
๐ Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud that I was able to design and prototype a mobile app from start-to-finish in a small time frame, as it was my first time doing so!
What we learned
There is a lot of thought that needs to be put into the User Interface of something as simple as a log-in page, to create the best possible User Experience.
๐ง What's next for hive
I would love to work with other designers and developers to improve and implement my design into a mobile app. I would also love to work with my university to have this app available for students, as I believe many would benefit from it!
