Inspiration
Sexually active gay men should get tested regularly for HIV/AIDS. Current websites are too clunky and slow. Clinics have weird hours. We need better APIs and design to help people find out when and where they can get tested. Today.
What it does
This website/app helps someone find the closest testing location to them, including helpful information about whether it's open now or later and what services it offers.
How we built it
Javascript/HTML/Postgres/Python/Django all on Github
Challenges we ran into
Finding and cleaning the data was tricky. Building an internal database structured for JS queries was also tricky.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We've simplified a process and data set that is harder to search than it should be.
What we learned
We've accomplished a lot in a small window of time. It's opened out eyes at how we could hack on projects together in the future.
What's next for hiv-test-finder
- More cities.
- Possible chatbot that could tie into the API and provide testing locations near you and let you set reminders to get tested regularly.
- Allow users to rate clinics
- iOS/Android app
