💡 Inspiration

Goal 13 : Climate Action Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.

Hitchhiking needs to be made common. A single person going in the car will affect all as a whole that. It will increase the carbon footprint. Hence an initial way to reduce a single person using a car is Hitchhiking. But people decline a ride often because they can believe who they are and how to trust some stranger. We came up with the Hitchhikers.club to fill up this trust issue and to build a community. We also took the design inspirations from Douglas Adams's famous novel 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'

⚙️What it does

Check it Out
👍 Hitchhikers.club is an environmentally friendly, cheap, and sociable way to travel. It is a community for travelers, drivers don't have to travel alone, they can ask for someone to join them on their way and Hitchhikers can ask for a ride from the drivers.

👍 You just have to sign up and complete your profile. In order to increase the probability of getting accepted by a rider get your profile verified by submitting the government IDs.

👍 After getting a ride or offering one write a reference for the member.

👍 After reaching milestones, you will get badges. Verified badges, references, and other badges make you more trustable.

👍 It doesn't stop there it has one-to-one texting features, group chat, and groups. It is a community to find a ride and offer a ride. Whether you are going to travel somewhere in the city or across countries, you will able to get a ride with Hitchhikers.club. This just not helps a member to get a ride or new friends alone. It also helps in reducing carbon emissions, no more traveling alone in the vehicle.

How we built it ⚙️

We used Velo to build this webapp. Velo by Wix had many apps and features which helped us a lot in making this possible.

Challenges we ran into 🤔

Brainstorming:We were discussing how to resolve the problem of hitchhiking. Development: It took me a while to decide on the platform on which this web app can be built. We tried using node and react. Later realized making this in this short span of time would be too hard. So we tried using Velo which helped us achieve this in this short span of time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of 😊

We are proud that we were able to build a website that is capable of bringing back the famous hitchhiking trend of the '60s and '70s and form a community of hitchhikers today wherein people can interact with fellow hitchhikers and post about their rides. We are also proud that we were able to use Velo which is really easy and user-friendly full-stack web development platform. It helps power users make use of some code snippets to make the even cooler.

What we learned 🤔

In addition to learning Velo and how to use their apps, we wrote really good articles for the pages. It helped us improve our English language skills.

What's next for Hitchhikers.club ⏭️

👉 We want to add credit card payments as a part of the verification, where we will be raising money too and users get an extra badge. We want to make an exclusive app for the community. We will be hosting some events online and offline to attract more people into the community.

I was responsible for the front-end of this project. We had a few issues regarding which platform to use to build our web app. But we were able to resove them eventually. I had a great time contributing to this project and hope it connects those who are interested in Hitchiking.
